The Fund aims to preserve and compound capital over the longer term, regardless of conditions in the broader equity market and economy.

Totus utilises fundamental bottom-up research to identify mispriced securities of which we take positions in (long and short) to profit from.

The Totus Alpha Strategy invests long and short in global developed market equities (mostly Australia and the US). The Strategy may also use derivatives (such as index futures, options and equity baskets) to generate absolute returns and to actively manage the portfolio's market exposure.

A True Alternative

Absolute Return - Aim to deliver positive risk-adjusted returns in all market environments regardless of the cycle.

Fundamental Equity Long Short Fundamental equity research. Investment themes with bottom-up stock selection.

Opportunity Driven - Open mandate and index/sector/geography agnostic. Our conviction in the opportunities discovered dictates portfolio exposures.

A diversified short portfolio can provide protection in tough markets.

Our proven investment process has delivered 13.9% p.a.* net of fees over 12 years with no correlation to traditional asset classes.

* since inception (2 Apr 2012) to 30 Apr 2024.

Totus believes that good companies tend to outperform bad companies over time. We seek out what we believe to be the best businesses at sensible prices within global developed equity markets and take short positions in a range of lower-quality business.

We believe that alpha can be delivered by investing long and short:

  • We aim to own a group of growing, quality cash-generative businesses with favourable industry tailwinds, high returns or earnings, strong balance sheets, and proven management.
  • Pairing the longs with a short book of lower quality companies facing headwinds or exhibiting red flags (e.g. cash burn, aggressive accounting, problematic or unsustainable business models) may reduce market risk (beta) and add attractive risk-adjusted returns.

A flexible mandate allows us to select investment opportunities across all industry sectors and market capitalisations globally.

Themes are used to concentrate the investment universe and focus the investment team's research efforts. Detailed fundamental bottom-up research  is then used to select individual investments that are exposed to those themes in order to build a diversified portfolio of 70-140 stocks.
