The Seed Space Fund (FinTech +), I.L.P (Fund) will target start-up businesses in the fintech and related sectors.

The Fund Manager has identified a lack of capital in this area. It believes that this lack of capital in association with carefully targeted investments should create an environment for outsized returns.

The Fund intends to use investment techniques to give high non-correlated returns to standard market investments. The Fund offers the ability to have a portfolio of investments in the early-stage fintech space, which should improve risk-weighted returns.

The Fund aims to support passionate Australian fintech founders who have market-changing products by providing capital, connections and conviction in order to drive innovation and deliver exceptional returns to Investors.

The Fund’s primary objective is to deliver a 20%+ IRR (net of fees and expenses) over the life of the Fund.

We also recognise the opportunity that our investments can have in delivering a positive impact on the local ecosystem. The capital we invest in early-stage companies will drive employment growth, innovation, and ultimately economic growth to Australia as a whole.

We will encourage co-investment from our Investors into individual deals when we invest as a fund, this may be relevant where an Investor has a particular interest, deep product knowledge or market understanding, or the ability to leverage an outcome through business connections. The collective experience and network of a broad group of sophisticated and engaged investors is not only a potentially valuable element of commercial edge, but also a potential pool of available and aligned investors.

As a member of Fintech Australia and other industry forums, we are also committed to contributing to a stronger and more engaged investor community, working together to ensure Australia is a world-class destination to deploy investment capital and an environment of choice for tech founders and employees alike.

The Fund will leverage formal partnerships with Australia’s premier fintech accelerator programmes and fintech innovation hubs. These partnerships will provide the Fund will direct and preferential access to the early-stage fintech start-ups coming through those channels.

The Fund Manager has entered into partnerships with Block8, Antler, H2 Ventures, YBF Ventures and Stone & Chalk and intends to expand the number of partners.

The Fund expects to:

  • provide wholesale investors with unique access to high growth capital efficient fintech start-ups.

  • provide Australian income and capital gains tax-exempt investment returns for investors.

  • achieve portfolio diversification away from traditional equity and fixed-income investments.

  • provide direct support to entrepreneurial businesses with a fintech focus in Australia; and

  • support entrepreneurs, job creation, innovation, new business ventures and economic growth focusing on fintech in Australia.

The Fund will generally invest up to $500k in a start-up in the seed (or similar) stage and up to $3m in subsequent raising rounds. The Fund’s investment objective is to target an IRR of 20%+ net of fees and expenses over the term of the Fund by investing in a diversified portfolio of ~ 50 to 70 capital-efficient fintech start-ups.

The Fund has appointed an Investment Committee to oversee the investment process. The process is summarised in the following table:

Seed Space is an Australian and Swiss based early stage venture capital firm.

We believe that there is a true revolution underway in the manner in which financial services are provided. Some of these are being driven by customer desires for new and more customer friendly financial services and others are being driven by new technologies allowing traditional financial services to be delivered differently and at much lower cost.

We are a true “Early Stage” Venture Capital firm. Our goal is to be the first professional investors and trusted advisors to the leading innovators in Financial Technology. We support and nurture our portfolio of early stage companies to help them grow into the financial services powerhouses of tomorrow.
